Starting Sept. 5, 2014, Genealogy.com will be making a big change. GenForum message boards, Family Tree Maker homepages, and the most popular articles will be preserved in a read-only format, while several other features will no longer be available, including member subscriptions and the Shop.

Hello Chris:

Yes, there is a local newspaper here in Macon County, "The Franklin Press". You may wish to contact them at
(828) 524-2010. They are located at

40 Depot Street
Franklin, NC 28734

I believe they hadve a website, possibly
www.franklinpress.com

Most newspaper obituaries of earlier years will be on file at the Macon County Public Library (828) 524-3600

108 Wayah Street
Franklin, NC 28734

If you find where it is loicated, please let me know and I will gladly copy it for you.

I don't believe deaths in that time period were recorded at the Courthouse.

I can be reached via this forum or at

judyh@dnet.net

Kindest regards,

Judy Hughes
