LONG/AREY Connection
Posted by: Frances Long Greene (ID *****0656) Date: September 12, 2002 at 17:19:41

My g grandparents Andrew "Jackson" LONG, b. 1867 in NC and Olivia Damascus HORNE b. 1861 in Hiawassee, Towns CO, GA were married in 1882 in Towns CO, GA. Olivia was the daughter of William HORNE and Caroline M. MASHBURN. They named their children, Lawrence Nathan, Odella, Arey, Allen Carl, Rosa or Rosie?, Zoah L. and Beulah Arlena. With a name like AREY, I am wondering if this is a family surname. This family is listed in the 1900 census in Macon CO, NC (Smith's Bridge Township). The census indicates that Andrew Jackson LONG's parents were born in NC, however none of us has been able to establish a line any further back than he. I have been told that two AREY sisters married LONG brothers somewhere along the line and I am wondering if we could be connected. If you can provide any clues or assistance it will be so greatly appreciated.
