I think I may have a link for you. There were three Cherry brothers in Lincoln, NC, David, Robert and William. Their father was David Cherry Sr. (according to a will from Lincoln County, NC dated 1800. David (b. 1776) and William (b.1770)apparently stayed in Lincoln but Robert disappeared--maybe he is your Robert that moved to Rutherford county?

I am descended from David Cherry Jr. (I think) whose son John Cherry (b.1810) was my gggrandfather. John Cherry moved to Gaston, NC then his son Albert moved on to Gordon County, GA.

There was also a Robert Cherry from Lincoln born (1820)who move to York, SC.
