I am not sure when Belmont Abbey was started but that was about the only Catholic Church in what is Lincoln County as it is today. Gastonia was formed from lincoln County in 1842.
Belmont Abbey is located in Belmont, NC and is nowin that portion of Lincoln county that is now gaston County.
I am visiting in Texas but I will be back at work on Wednesday. I work in the Historical & Genealogical section of the Lincoln County Library. I attend St. Dorothy's Catholic Church In Lincolnton, NC Lets correspond by E-Mail. My address is rgaraham@conninc.com
