Lanny:
Try this: http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/k/n/i/Jo-G-Knight/index.html
This is the site of (Ms.) Jo Goodson Knight of Waynesboro, Burke County, Georgia. Her family came from Lincoln Co., NC to work in the iron furnaces of northeast Georgia. You will notice several Monroe's in the list. However, take a look at Generation #5, John Franklin Goodson. His 5th child is Josephus Goodson (you mentioned Joseph in your response to me), b. 1839, Alabama, and nothing else noted. Don't be discouraged by the "Alabama" reference, because all of his older siblings were, in fact born in Lincoln County, NC. In addition, this Cass (now Bartow) Co., GA area is very close to the Alabama line, and all younger siblings were, in fact born in Cass (Bartow) Co., GA. Note the next youngest brothers of Josephus:(1) Jacob F. Goodson, died in Yell County, Arkansas and (2) John Albert Goodson, died in Arkansas. You will notice in her continuing research, additional references to Arkansas, particularly Yell County. Hope this helps. Drop me an email message if this closes the gap. I would be interested in following your progress.
Ken
