I have a land deed dated from 1767 for John Read. The property was “on both sides of the South Fork of Beaver Dam Branch a south branch of Catawba River near Beaty’s Ford.” The property bordered on the Beatty property as well as “Conner Cy’s.” Thomas Beatty and Archibald Lytle were involved with the survey. (Thomas Beatty’s daughter Margaret would later marry John Read’s (Reed) son James.) I’ve read that Thomas Beatty went farther west into Lincoln County. My question: I can find a Beaver Dam Creek flowing into the South Fork of the Catawba River, south of Lincolnton. Was there a Beaty’s Ford on the South Fork named after Thomas or was there a Beaver Dam Branch/Creek that flowed or flows into near what was Beatty’s Ford on the Catawba River? Thanks for you help.
