Thanks Judy,
I live in N. California, but I can contact the Lincoln Co., NC Genealogical Society, (if there is one) to try to get some more information. I DO have, however, a list of NC marriages, early to 1800. There are 22 Abernathy's on it, all in Lincoln Co., except for 1 Granville and 1 Cabarrus. Do you think this might help YOU? I know that there was an Abernathy family that ended up in Chambers Co., AL, that was from SC and originally NC. This was the family of Allie Abernathy, who compiled "Allie Abernathy's Scrapbook." I think it goes back to a William, then a John Abernathy, both in SC. They may be descendants of Robert Abernathy III, who moved to Lincoln from VA. HE died in Lincoln in 1771. His son, David Sr., was the father of my Joseph.
I will keep my eyes open for you.
Best of luck,
OCF
