To answer your questions - yes, I am a Lincoln Co. person, but have no info on the incident you quoted. I have, "many moons ago," copied documents from the NC Archives pertaining to this area during the period of the French and Indian War 1755-1763. I have nothing about a raid in this area by the Cherokee 1768. Your quote states the Cherokee recrossed the Allegheny Mountains. From the info I have in file on various militia expeditions against the Cherokee the expeditions were directed to the settlements in western NC, TN, SC and GA - primarily NC and TN.
I have seen nothing in Lincoln Co. history about the event you described. I'm sure if I had seen a document in the Archives describing something like this I would have made a note of it, or copied the document. There were occasional raids into this area by the Cherokee, and militia expeditions ordered out, but this was primarily 1755-1760.
