Michael, This is the NC State website in which they list the county codes that are assigned to each county AND they tell you when the county was formed and what county was it's "parent" county. http://statelibrary.dcr.state.nc.us/iss/gr/counties.htm Your William Walters would have had to have been born in either Johnston Co or Craven Co, as Dobbs county was not created from Johnston Co until 1759. Johnston Co was created from Craven Co in 1746. You might also want to check records in Jones Co, as I've found a lot of court record info, on my White family, there. In NC Will Abstracts [1663-1760], there is a will of Mary Walters written April, 1756 Proved May 25, 1756. She mentions Brothers: John & Joseph Walters Sisters: Elizabeth Walters & Mary Grainger Son: WILLIAM WALTERS She bequeaths her estate to her sister, Mary Grainger, in event of death of her son. While the will does not give an age of the son, apparently she was a widow, as no husband is mentioned. New Hanover Co was created from Craven Co in 1729. North Carolina Taxpayers, 1679-1790, Vol 2 shows 1769 Dobbs Co Abiemelech Walters, son of John Armstrong Walters John Walters John Walters, son of John Jude Walters Wm Walters Of interest is that in 1755 a John Walters is shown in New Hanover Co, NC. This may be the husband of Mary Walters, who died there, in 1756 given they are "in the neighborhood". They may connect, somehow, with your Walters line, as there were not that many listed, in NC and most were all in Dobbs Co. Hope this helps. Faye Notify Administrator about this message?
