Ed, thanks for responding. Sarah P Peedin (which may be the difference) married John Thompson on Jan 30, 1862 in Johnston County.
My great grandfather was Charles Edwin and ella was my great grand mother.
From what I can tell, John W. Thompson was in the war and died of a disease. I have the info, I will just have to find it and email you.
I think Sarah had Charles illigitimately. Although he was named a Thompson because she was a Thompson by marriage, I think his father was Kincheon Kornegay. Charles was born around 1867 if memory is right. John died I think somewhere around 1865. Will send that to you.
Looks like Festus Stlarling married Sarah Thompson on May 2, 1871 in Johnston County.
This is the census in 1880 and this is why I think Festus married my Sarah. Charley is listed as a child of Festus' but I think that they must have changed his name from Thompson to Starling for a while. I am still researching. My email address is vickyd1228@yahoo.com.
