Steve I've just read your query. I've been to the McKendree Chapel. The markers are very worn and many are missing. The only list of those buried there was destroyed some years ago. However, I don't think your George and wife ever lived inIredell or Mecklenburg County. They are also my direct ancestors, but their presumed grandson William A. Huneycutt did move to this part of NC as a child from Stanly County after the Civil War, with his step-grandmother Nance Hinson. She was the second wife of George Cagle, Jr., the grandfather of William. George had trouble staying away from the ladies and later lost his life to jealous husband. I suspect Nancy left him because of his "wanderings." William's marker is also missing. I know he's buried there because my grand uncle Lee Boyd Honeycutt keep records and kept his children informed of their history. I have a 1870 census showing George and Tabitha Honeycutt living in Lenoir, Caldwell County, NC. He had wandered from Union to Stanly to Caldwell, we know. Maybe he did make it south to Iredell or Mecklenburg.
