Kemps

My husband's ancestor, John Kemp, resided in Iredell County. I have two birth dates for him -- 1740 and 1755, which possibly could be for two separate John Kemps, a popular name in the Kemp family. We have one record stating that John Kemp and Nancy Wallis were married in 1743, which wouldn't match our John and Nancy.
I know it is very easy to either transpose numbers or copy them incorrectly so we want to be as accurate as possible.

Nancy Wallis died in 1810 and John in 1810. My husband is descended from 1)John Kemp II, 2)Evan, 3)Peter, 4)William S, 5)Francis Henry, 6)Eugene Francis. We seem to have hit a brick wall as we find no record of where they might have lived or in fact, where they might be buried. We would like to get the family history straight before passing it on to our children who are interested in genealogy. One of our problems is also the fact that we have no middle name to perhaps distinguish one John Kemp from another John Kemp. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
