Hi Robyn, I'm certainly not an expert on Haywood County but thought I'd reply to your query. The worst flood ever to hit Western North Carolina was in 1916. The French Broad river flooded as did all other rivers and streams. If you go to your search engine (I use Google)and type NC Flood of 1916, several things will come up and even some pictures. Several list books on the subject which perhaps you could borrow through interlibrary loan. I hope this information is helpful to you. Kathy Petrucelli
