My great grandmother, Sarah Jane Owens Trull, was born March 1860 in Haywood Co., NC. On Sarah Jane's death certificate, her father's name was given as Jef [sic] Owens. Her mother was listed on the Cheoah District portion of the 1870 Cherokee Co., NC census as Sarah Hice, with she and four children living in the household of Henry [Enos McHenry] Hooper. Her fifth child was a farm laborer in another Hooper home.
I don't know whether Jef and Sarah were married, but four of her children had the Owens surname and one the Hice surname (her youngest child on the above-mentioned census).
So far, I have had no luck in finding any information about Jef and Sarah. On the 1880 census, my g grandmother listed her parents as being born in Georgia, but on the 1900 census, the state of birth had miraculously become NC. Jef was not listed on any of the censuses for Cherokee/Graham Co., NC censuses. He was probably born in the late 1820s or early 1830s.
There are Owens families in Graham Co, living and deceased, but I cannot connect my gg grandfather Owens to anyone. I'm hoping something in this query will bring forth some ancestral fruit.
