Amy, after reviewing my notes, Loray Mill was in Gastonia, in Gaston County. A lot of Haywood County folks left the mountains in the early 1900's to work in the mills in the Gaston County, NC area as well as the Union County, SC area. The Loray Mill was a favorite workplace for "mountain folks" and was the scene of terrible worker strikes in the mid and late 1920's which left many people dead. The Communist Party was blamed for much of the trouble.
Good Luck.
David
