Waynesville is the county seat of Haywood County. It has a population of approx. 11,000. It was founded one year after Haywood Co. was formed in 1809. Waynesville was called Mt. Prospect before that time. Haywood was formed from Buncombe County. For more information, go to the Haywood Co. Geneological Society at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nchcgs/
