Thanks. I'll have to pull out Louisa Manly's book on the Manly line of (John) Basil Manly to find her source. I've honestly forgotten. She does, however give sources for the statement that both the county & town of Haywood were named in honor of John Haywood. I know that he was born in Edgecombe County in 1755, his parents were William Haywood and Charity Hare and he died in Raleigh in 1827.
