This Penelope Hurdle wrote her will in April 1885 and died within a few months. In the 1880 census she was listed as single rather than widowed which would lead me to believe that she had never married. I believe her to be the daughter (b.1823) of Joseph T. Hurdle and Elizabeth Trotman. Can anyone confirm this? She also shows in both the 1850 and 1860 Gates County censuses. Also in her will she showed a generosity to what appear to be two former slaves, Mills and Hagar Hurdle. Might anyone know what Hurdle family these two might have belonged to? A will by Joseph T. Hurdle might indicate but I have been unable to find one.
