Jack and my mother Doris are second cousins by their great-grandparents Alexander Gideon WHICKER* and Florina Elizabeth CREWS.
* Note well: _Wicker/Whicker Family_ has Alec's middle name as "Gilbert"; the source of this error and great-granddaughter of Alexander and Florina as well, Anne Roberts Cook Samsel, corrected this in an e-mail she sent me:
"Alexander Whicker's middle name is 'Gideon' not 'Gilbert'. Sadly, I am the source of that mistake that was printed in Felton's Wicker/Whicker book. I have his death certificate which states it as Gideon -Aunt Eudora Whicker, his daughter, was to one who provided the information for the death certificate. Additionally, Cousin Jack Stanley also said it was Gideon.
I apologize for the mistake; it has made problems for many researchers."
Hmm, I reckon this makes me the family genealogist by default...
