Thank you Matt, for responding.. It is Woodland Cem... I was going by an old letter, handwriten in 1916,from my gg grandmother's sister telling her of the funeral of their brother.
My gg grandmother has been quite a mystery to us.Her name was Betty Carter b. may 7 1868 in Henry Co Va. to Thomas Jefferson Carter and Anna Lewis. She married her first cousin, Moses Carter, the son of her father's brother, Cary Lafayette Carter, who left Henry Co in 1855 and came to Ky.
Cary and his family disagreed on the topic's of the approaching civil war. Cary served in the Union while to my knowledge he's family supported the Confederacy. Now, we were told that after several years Betty's father traveled to Ky to make amend with his brother, and Betty came with him. She stayed In ky and married her 1st cousin.
We know nothing of her brothers and sisters, except names from letters .
The one letter of 1916, is from Eliza Money, Betty's sister.
Eliza married Rutherford Money, and according to census records he was a real estate agent.
The brother's death she was writing of was, Henry Carter b. 1849 or thereabouts. Census records always has his name as John H. Carter. He was an auctioneer, and died in Burlington , however the letter states that he had just bought a home in Reidsville NC.
She goes on to say that only two of his children attended the funeral.. Love and her husband Jack.. And Robert..
She also says that she, Ruth (who married a Morefield), Hattie (who married a King), Mary (according to census records married Daniel Wilkinson), were the only sisters who attended, saying that their brothers Riley and Howard, were unknown on their whereabouts. Another sister Cornelia ,who married a Haley, wasn't able to come due to sickness..
Henry, the brother, was buried in Woodland Cem.., as was their mother Anna Lewis Carter.. Some of the Lewis' researches also gives Anna's name as Jane...
In later years Betty told her grandson that she was a Brogan. We can only speculate why she told him that. ?
Any help at all you could lend on this would be greatly appreciated..
