I am searching for information about my husband's great great great grandmother. Her name was Hannah Hines. She was born in NC between 1810 and 1820 (census records vary). She first appears in the 1840 census in Kitty Hawk, NC listed as head of household, with her young son Lemuel (born in 1837). She was not married to Lemuel's father and Lemuel carries her Hines name, as do his descendants.
I am trying to discover where she was born and who her parents were. The Hines population appears to be heaviest in the Duplin and Edgecomb counties in 1820 and 1830 census records so I am concentrating on those areas.
Has anyone discovered a Hines family in that area with a daughter named Hannah? In some Kitty Hawk records she also has a Matilda Hines living with her or nearby. Matilda could be a younger sister, since she appears to be 10-12 years younger than Hannah.
Any clues are greatly appreciated.
