William ‘Bill’ Lester Milam Sr.

KANNAPOLIS - William “Bill” Lester Milam Sr., 76, of 202 East C Street, Kannapolis, died Saturday, April 30, 2005 in NorthEast Medical Center in Concord.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 4 in Whitley’s Funeral Chapel in Kannapolis. The Rev. Abraham Ferris, pastor of Coldwater Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Carolina Memorial Park in Concord with military graveside rites conducted by the Cabarrus County DAV Chapter 27.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, in Whitley’s Funeral Home, Kannapolis.

At other times the family will be at the home.

Born July 5, 1928 in Cabarrus County, Mr. Milam was a son of the late Juit Lester and Omi Foster Milam.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel Hendren Milam; two sons, Billy L. Milam Jr. of Maryville, Tenn. and Eric L. Milam of Kannapolis; a daughter, Beth Smith of Hemingway, S.C.; three sisters, Georgia Moore of Kannapolis, Delia Garmon and Nawatha Turner both of Jacksonville, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Milam was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 27 and a member of Shadybrook Baptist Church in Kannapolis. He retired from Cannon Mills with 57 years of service in the shipping department.

Whitley’s Funeral Home is serving the family of Mr. Milam.

Delia Evelyn (Milam) Garmon
CITRUS SPRINGS, Fla. -Delia Evelyn Garmon (nee Milam), 91, of Citrus Springs, Fla., passed away on Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, at her home. A native of Kannapolis, she moved to Citrus Springs, Fla. over five years ago from Jacksonville, Fla., where she had lived for 65 years. First a homemaker, her working life carried her through employment with Southern Bell Frozen Foods in Jacksonville, Fla. as well as providing in home child care. She was a long time member of the Berea Baptist Church in Jacksonville, where she served as its Infant Nursery Care provider for over 30 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 44 years, The Late Starling J. Garmon, in 1981. Delia is survived by her daughter, Angela M. Metcalf and son-in-law, Jon Metcalf, of Citrus Springs, Fla.; son, Ernest Garmon of Orange Park, Fla.; granddaughter, Tara Jones; great-granddaughter, Madison Jones, and granddaughter-in-law, Greta Williams, all of Melbourne, Fla.; sister, Nawatha Turner of Jacksonville, Fla. and sister, Georgia Marie Moore of Kannapolis. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 14th at 1 p.m. at Restoration Baptist Church, 11828 New Kings Road, Suite 201 (AKA U.S. 1), Jacksonville, FL., (ph) 904-683-7676. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions in Delia's name to Hospice of Citrus County, P.O. Box 641270, Beverly Hills, FL 34464 (www.hospiceofcitruscounty.org). Fero Funeral Home, Beverly Hills, FL, in charge of arrangements.
