In wandering through a bookstore today, I saw a book entitled "The Hairstons: An American Family in Black and White," a family who apparently lived at Cooleemee Plantation in Rowan Co., NC, now either Davidson or Davie Co. NC, probably Davie. The book is by Henry Wiencek and involved tracing the Hairston family through its white and then slave (African American) members.
It might be of interest to people researching this surname. It also extends into VA and perhaps other states.
