Does anyone know anything about the Patrick White who was listed as a son of Joshua White in his 1777 will (this is from memory so I hope I got it right). If I recall correctly, Joshua's wife was Lydia and I seem to recall Joshua's brother was Henry. From what I have pieced together from postings (not necessarily official sources), they were descended from a Patrick White who was transported from Ireland as a convict in 1653 and was later a principle in Culpepper's Rebellion. I studied the history of the period and came up with some pretty interesting stuff about this original Patrick. Later, in the 1790s, another Patrick White shows up as a "major merchant" in Petersburg, Va., and he also seems to have ties to Currituck County, but I haven't pinned him down yet. I think it is the same Patrick White whose letters are included in the Thomas Jefferson collection. Does anyone know anything about him and how he connects? As one might suspect, I'm also descended from a Patrick White. It seems as though all the Patrick Whites in the South may have been connected to the Currituck County bunch, because Patrick is actually a rather unusual name. But I'll be darned if I can figure out where my line connects - I just know for sure my Patrick was in Alabama in the early 1800s and was probably in Pendleton District, S.C. for the 1790 census. He is kind of a mystery. Notify Administrator about this message?
