Aaron Smith was born about 1720 on the coast near the NC /VA line. His parents are unknown. He was the husband of Elizabeth Carraway daughter of John Carraway IV and Margaret Keeling of Lynnhaven Princess Anne County, Va. He moved up the Neuse to old Dobbs county (Johnston county) held title to land in Anston and Rowan counties and around 1756 sold it all and moved to the North West Fork of Long Cane Creek (Little River) near Hogskin Creek just west of Due West, South Carolina. On July 1, 1776. Captain Aaron his wife, five children and five male slaves were killed in an attack by Indians and or British agents. Two sons escaped and spread the alarm. His children who survived were Ezekiel Smith, Thomas Keeling Smith, John Carraway Smith, Aaron Smith Jr. and a daughter ,Lowesiany Smith I descend from Ezekiel, Ezekiel Francis, Daniel Newnan, Madison Gray, and Eugene Spence Smith. Margaret Keeling was the mother in law of Captain Aaron. The Carraway and Keeling families lived in present day Virginia Beach and were related to the Kemp, Foster, Cannon, Cornick, Martin, Lovett, and other early families in this area of Virginia. The Smith families migrated to North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama.
