Dear Forum:

I am in need of a lookup in the "People of Columbus a Study of 800 Families." I hope that someone can help.

I don't know if the book listed the free blacks or mulattos. The Spauldings and Mitchells were listed on the 1860 census for Columbus County. Most of my folks were of mixed race.

I need a look-up for Frank Baldwin born 1838 his first Wife was Martha, I don't have her surname. Orange Campbell and Rachel Baldwin were his parents who married in 1839. Orange Campbell is kin to John C. Campbell who served in the Confederacy.

Sam Swindell owned my maternal great great grandmother and great great great grandmother, Emily and Rachel. Don't know if they were free or emanicipated in 1850. They could have been working in the capacity of servants/cooks etc. I hope that there is some mention of them also.

Hope to hear from someone who and assist me in a lookup on the Baldwins, Campbells, and Swindells of Welches Creek Columbus County.

Kind regards,
Shelda Baldwin Glover
