ISO any descendants of or folks with info on the surname Wertman. The 1850 census showed 5 wertmans in Cleveland Co. Also Civil War enlistment records show a David D. and Simeon Wertman who enlisted in the 30th NC Infantry, raised for the most part in Granville Co. I have checked all the cemetaries in Cleveland Co. through the US GENWEB projects. I have found no Wertmans but a ton of Wortmans. We are trying to discover if the Cleveland Co. Wertmans were related to those of us Pa. Wertmans. Am thinking perhaps the name was changed to Wortman. Thyis has happened in Pa. where some of the families went by Wartman and then changed back to Wertman. Anyone with any info can e-mail me direct at; oldjubilee@hotmail.com or reploy to this query.
