Bush Arbor Church - BROWN family
Posted by: Robert Hollis (ID *****4196) Date: July 29, 2004 at 21:58:15

I'm looking for the family of my ggg-gm, Frances BROWN b. 1777 in Caswell Co., m. 1798 to Jesse HOLLIS. They moved to Indiana in 1825.

Frances's brothers were James, (sometimes called James Jr.), b. 1769, Basil, b. ca. 1786, and probably Hudson. She may have had a younger sister, Elizabeth.

Jesse and Frances owned land (purchased from William BROWN, James Dickey, Samuel Dickie and William Dickie) near the headwaters of Tom's (Thom's) Creek in southern Caswell County. It is almost certain that they attended church somewhere nearby.

I believe that Bush Arbor Church, which is located at the headwaters of Tom's Creek, was extant in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, and it is possible that early records still exist. Does anyone know if this is true, and if so, whom I might contact for information? I would appreciate any information about other early churches in the area, as well.

Thanks, and happy hunting,
Bob Hollis
