HILL family relatives of VA/NC early 1800's
I am researching some elusive HILL siblings. Some very lucky researching has left me with this:
Rev. Joseph HILL
m. 1796, Halifax Co., VA
Mildred BOYD (aka Molly or Milly) b. abt. 1783 Halifax Co., VA
Their children, according to a probate record in Pittsylvania Co., VA dated 1817-1821 were:
1. Jonathan HILL
2. Joseph Jr. HILL
3. Elizabeth HILL
The sister sibling, Elizabeth HILL, was b. 12/1805, VA (believed to be Halifax Co.) and married at age 16 in Caswell Co., NC to Spencer H. Rodden.
The father, Rev. Joseph HILL, died sometime before 10/1813 (in Halifax or Pittsylvania Co., VA) as widow Mildred BOYD HILL is found getting married to a Barksdale RIDDLE in Pittsylvania Co., VA at that time.
I am looking for possible relatives and migrations of descendants of the unknown 2 brother siblings, Jonathan and Joseph Jr. HILL. Since parents were married in 1796 and father died before 1813, birthdates of boys must fall sometime between. I am descended from Elizabeth and know that she and her husband sold 5 acres of land in Halifax Co., VA for abt. $27 in 1824. They migrated to Monroe Co., TN in 1827/1828. I am also researching how they obtained this land at such young ages early in their marriage. I've been researching inheritance possibilities and have found that it is entirely possible this land was inherited by Elizabeth since there was quite of bit of inheriting going on with the BOYDS and Spencer was an enigma to his family.
Their mother, Mildred BOYD HILL RIDDLE had at least 5 more children with Barksdale, some of which migrated to Spencer Co., IN (as did Mildred and Barksdale). Some remained in the Halifax Co., VA area and right across the border in Caswell Co., NC. I'm wondering if these two brothers HILL remained in the area as well? There is another probate record in Pittsylvania Co., VA dated 1831-1834 that names a Joseph HILL and Jonathan HILL as orphans, perhaps the sons of Joseph HILL Jr.?
Other migration possibilities are Pickens Co., SC and Granville Co., NC and Jasper Co., GA, even parts of TN.
Would love to look into possibilities with other HILL researchers.
