The Nichols family arrived in the Wolf Island Creek area when Ambrose bought land there in 1777 and 1781, on both sides of the creek. In 1783 he sold the land to John Nichols, his brother. John died in 1787 and his wife Bidey took over the land. In the 1790 census she lives in Rockingham County and Johns sons Allen and John live in Caswell County. The county line came right through the property. John Jr. also had property on Hogans Creek which his father bought and Bidey paid for after he died in 1788. The Hogan Creek property was sold by John Jr. to John Wilson in 1794. The other two sons Field and Allen lived on the Caswell side until 1820 when Bidey died and Field moved to the Rockingham side and Allen stayed on the Caswell side. Allen and two of his sons, Isaac and Brockman were in the 1820 census in Caswell. In 1821 Allen sold the property and moved away. Brockman ended up in Smith county TN in the 1840 census with 10 children. Isaac ended up in Marion County, IL and was my ancestor. He married Ann Norman the daughter of Benjamin Norman in 1818 in Caswell County.
