Hi Ruth,
Thanks for responding. Susannah Mitchell who married Eldridge Hastings was the daughter of William Mitchell who died in the first quarter of 1795. William Mitchell's wife was the daughter of Macksfield Henslee, her first name is unknown. I find no record whatsoever that elder William had a second wife, in fact evidence points to the contrary. First, she is not listed in the will. Second, elder Mitchell provided in his will that his plantation be left intact to produce income for the children (no mention of wife) until they all became adults. The Henslee family traditions also indicate that the younger Mitchell children were raised by the Henslee family. It should also be noted that daughter Elizabeth Carey Mitchell is provided for in Macksfield Henslee's will and he lists her as his grandchild. Also, it appears that the elder Mitchell's will lists his children in chronological order, beginning with the oldest. Elizabeth is the last child mentioned.

The only other Susannah Mitchell that I have in my files is the wife of William Mitchell, grandson of elder William. She was Susannah Foster, daughter of Lewis Foster and Scicily Mitchell. Younger William is my ggg grandfather James' brother and Susannah is my ggg grandmother Sarah's sister. (my ggg grandparents were 1st cousins, James Mitchell and Sarah Foster.

If you have information on the descendents of the Hastings-Mitchell union, I would appreciate it if I can obtain a copy. Thanks.
