I do not much information on the Mitchell family; however, Susanna Mitchell who married Eldridge Hastings (son of John Hastings) was believed by some researchers to be 2nd wife of the William Mitchell who died 1795-1796. Those researchers think that Susannah's maiden name was Scoggins. Other researchers believe that Susannah was William Mitchell's daughter. Do you have data that would lend support to either of these positions?

I found a December 1796 document showing that attendees and purchases at William Mitchell's estate sale included Zachariah Hastings, John Hastings, Susannah Mitchell, Cuthbert King, John Hensley and John Mitchel. Zachariah Hastings and John Hastings were brothers. Cuthbert King was John Hastings son-in-law. John Hensley was related to the Hastings via a Hasting-Hensley marriage. I do not know the relationship of John Mitchel to the Hastings.

On April 4, 1796 a deed transfer from Daniel Burford of CC to John Hastings of CC, 320 acres on Stoney Creek adj Foster, William Mitchell decd, Hart, Brintle, John Sawyer. Wit: Lance Johnston, Eldridge Hasting

On 11-14-1796 John Henslee and Robt. Mitchell wit'd will of John Rice Prov. Jan 1797
