Yanceyville is the county seat of Caswell County, named after Bartlett Yancey who settled at Caswell Courthouse in 1808 to practice law. He later served in the U.S. House of Representative and the North Carolina Senate. The home that he had builded in Yanceyville is now listed in the National Register of Historical Places and was recently put up for sale.
