1909 explosion at sea - s/o John & Polly Ann Willis

Looking for descendants of John A Willis & Polly Ann WILLIS
who were the parents of 9 children. Hoping to piece together death of one of their children: Millard Filmore WILLIS who, according to family legend, had his ear drum burst during sea explosion and went crazy.

I can find no record of Millard Filmore WILLIS after the 1880 census. He impregnates 15 year old Cora Arthur and
must have run away to get married. They have 4 children
together. Then in 1910 she is listed as 'widow'.

Where was he in the 1900 census?
Where is he buried?
When did he die?
