Bob,

I hope you find this reply because I am sure it is unique. I am writing to you from the home of Dennis D. Ferebee. I purchased this home about 19 years ago and I have some documents about this home, its name was and is Shale Bridge, I will be selling it soon, in that I have purchased my retirement home in Chesterfield County, VA. I encountered your request while doing some research on the role this house, its slaves and Colonel Ferebee played in the Underground Railroad. The National Park System has shown some interest in listing the home or even buying it relative to its involvement with the underground railroad. The local legend is loaded with people who tell of its role in the Underground Railroad and the fact that there was a tunnel in my basement that led to an old Black Cemetery. I have removed tons of sand and dirt from the basement and have uncovered many parts of it in the same condition it was 150 years, ago. But, no tunnel. I was told it was filled in the 1930's.

If you get this email, contact me, at fxciv@mchsi.com and I will promise you a long and enjoyable tour of the place. I'll give you directions, also. If anyone, else, has told you otherwise, I have the deeds in my desk drawer going all the way back to the Colonel's will. I know of some direct descendants, also. And where the Colonel's is buried.

Sincerely,
Frank Chester
