The Heltons were in Burke county originally. William was probably born in Burke county and probably descends from Jeremiah Helton. They lived in Gunpowder Creek Burke which became Granite Falls Caldwell in 1851. Caldwell County was formed in 1851 from the SW corner of Wilkes county and the NE corner of Burke County. Where the Heltons were in Caldwell ( Granite Falls) is just north of Catawba County today and south of Lenoir township. Try the Helton surname board for more info.
