As Caldwell didn't exist until 1840 or so, having been created from Wilkes County on the east and Burke on the west, formal records from 1800 would be found not in Lenoir but in one or the other of Wilkes or Burke. We found the library at Wilkes Community College at Wilkesboro to have extensive records and helpful staff (the target of our search, Colonel Elijah Isaacks, lived and hunted Tories in the Yadkin valley area which had been Wilkes County in the time of the Revolution.
