There is a place called Gunpowder Creek. I am going to list a couple of things in our Helton history that mentions this place.
In the beginning , they are near Andrew Baird and his iron works on Gunpowder near present Granite Falls.
On the 1815 tax list of Capt. Campbels Company Jeremiah Helton is listed with 100 acreas on Gunpowder Creek and no polls, in the vicinity of Granite Falls in present Caldwell County.
Best I can do. Go to Granite Falls and ask around. Hope this helps.
