Hi Folks: I'm a new arrival to this site so I wanted to give you a little info. as to my reasons for joining your group. I teach 7th and 8th grade social studies at Cane Creek Middle School in Fletcher NC. I am also amember of a Civil War reenacting group known as the 26th North Carolina Regiment. Joel Helton one of your early ancestors was the oldest of the original 26th boys to enlist at the start of the war. I want to learn as much as I can about Joel's history because I would like to portray his "persona" at our reenactment events. We do several living history events at various Civil War sites and we are often called upon to interact with the spectators and engage in first person portrayals and conversations that draw on our knowledge of a particulart soldier's life. I think this is a fine way to honor the memory of these brave men who fought in a highly controversial but none the less crucial historic struggle.I often recreate these first prson performances for my students at Cane Creek and have been invited to participate in similar events at other schools. I would greatly appreciate any input or suggestions as to locations and sites that might contain information about Joel and/or his descendants. It would be especially helpful to me if anyone knows of any collections of primary sources such as letters, journals or other original accounts of Joel's experiences during the War. Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide me in this regard.I look forward to hearing from you. John Capone
