Carol I don't know about John Riley Townsend, but I have a William Townsend selling 175 acres to my ancestor James Burns on 4th Sep. 1810 for $500. It was witnessed by Silaf [Silas] Shirm Furt? [can't read clearly]. William gave his mark and had another person related to its certification: Wm Mcgraw and Test. George Phifer.
