According to military records, WW II Navy Aircraft Carriers, Eddie M. Hurlocker was assigned to the ship Langley from Sep 1939 through at least Dec 1941. He was received on board June 20, 1936. Ancestry.com has a copy of the ship roster and a photo of that ship. The US Roster of World War II dead, lists Eddie M. Hurlocker as a Carpenter's Mate 1st Class; disposition of body "nonrecoverable." In the 1930 US Federal Census, Eddie M. Hurlocker was listed as residing at the Coco Solo Submarine Base, Cristobol Dist., Panama Canal, April 1. Listed as born in North Carolina, age 24, member of US Navy. He was listed as missing in action, 1 March 1942. I think he may have been the son of Sandy M. and Mary Jane Hurlocker. Here are the census records which match to this family: 1900, Cabarrus Co., Mt. Pleasant: Hurlocker, Sandy M., b. May 1875, age 25, b. NC, married 2 yrs, cotton mill worker Hurlocker, M. Jane, wife, b. Dec 1878, age 21, married 2 yrs, gave birth to 1 child, 1 survives, b. NC Hurlocker, Dovie J., daughter, b. Oct 1899, age 1, b. NC In the 1910 census, the census taker really messed it up! I think it should be S. for Sandy, and not A. for Andy, which the census taker wrote. Also, he has Dovey as a male son! 1910 Cabarrus Co., NC, Twp. 4 Hurlocker, A. M., 33, married for 13 yrs, farmer, b. NC Hurlocker, Mary J., age 30, gave birth to 6 children, 5 survive, b. NC Hurlocker, Dovey, son, age 11, b. NC Hurlocker, John D., age 9, b. NC Hurlocker, Osker R., age 7, b. NC Hurlocker, Archie, age 4, b. NC Hurlocker, Monroe E., age 3, b. NC Hurlocker, William S., age 2, b. NC By the time of the 1920 census, Mary Jane is not in the home, although Sandy shows himself as "M" for married. 1920, Cabarrus, Cooks Cross, boarding in the home of Robert J. Hunsucker: Hurlocker, Sandy, boarder, age 44, male, married, b. NC Hurlocker, Raymond, age 16, b. NC (Osker R.?) Hurlocker, Eddie, age 14, b. NC (Monroe E.?) Hurlocker, Willie, age 11, b. NC (William?) Hurlocker, Ardel, age 9, b. NC Hurlocker, Mary Ella, age 7, b. NC Hurlocker, James, age 5, b. NC Hurlocker, Maud, age 3, b. NC It's possible that Mary Jane died by this census. I find a death certificate for Lizzie Ardell Hurlocker Galloway in 1974, which states her parents were Sandy Hurlocker and Mary Jane Stallings. I hope this helps you.
