Sylvia,

I don't know if my Douglasses are related to yours. I have a "Thomas Giles/Jiles" DOUGLASS or "Giles Thomas" Douglass who was born ca. 1860 to a Jackson Douglass and a Louisa Miller.

I have very little information about Thomas Douglass or his parents. Thomas Douglass married Martha Rosetta Healton/Helton in Howard Co. Indiana in early 1890. Thomas reported on the marriage license that he and both his parents were born in North Carolina. Thomas Douglass reported that his mother was Louisa Miller and his father was Jackson Douglass. I don't know if "Jackson" or "Louisa" are their first names or their middle names. Until I had seen the marriage license, I had always heard "Thomas" referred to as "Jiles" or "Giles" Douglass. For all I know Thomas's parents could have been "Thomas Jackson" or "Andrew Jackson" Douglass & "Sarah Louisa" or "Mary Louisa" Miller, for example.

Martha Rosetta "Etta" Healton's family was also from North Carolina and her family were Quakers. I have no idea if the Douglasses were Quakers. Thomas & Rosetta "Etta" had five children: Sylvia Myrtle, Missouri "Zuri" Leola, Russell Anderson, Herman J. & Lodema L.

Martha Rosetta Healton's parents were Mary Fair (b. ca. 1833) & Allen Helton/healton (b. ca. 1824). Allen was the son John Helton/Healton & Sarah Adams.
John was the son of Abraham Helton & Rebecca Vestal. All of those lines are from North Carolina.

Thomas Douglass died sometime between 1900 and 1905. I have no death dates on his parents & don't know whether they stayed in North Carolina or any other points in between (i.e. OH, TN, KY, VA, WV, etc.) Martha Rosetta "Etta" Healton/Helton Douglass married Orange Lincoln "Link" Horner ca. 1905/1906.

I don't know if there is any connection between our Douglass clans, but good luck with your search. If I come across any information specific to your line, I will post it for you!

Sarah
