John F. Barnhardt born around 1801 in Cabbarus County was my husband's ancestor. Is he the Barnhardt you are looking for? At any rate the John Barnhardt born in 1801 married first Anna Elizabeth (Eliza on the Marriage Bond) had 6 children, Rachel, Asa, Crissa, Richard, Lachas and I can't remeber the 6th one off hand. He then married Sophia Blackwelder and later Mary?. There is a will shown in Roots web mentioning Mary. If he's not the John Barnhardt you are looking for check postings by Archie Barnhadt. He has done extensive research on this family. The Cabburus County also has a Genalogical Section and has a great deal of info on the Barnhardt family. There is also a set of Gray books in the Library listing the Confederate Soliders from Cabbarus County.
