Cecelia, I just received unconfired word that my aunt Sarah
"Sallie" Shelby who married John Alexander might have indeed
married a James Alfred Alexander...which I think is unlikely.

However, John and Sarah (Shelby) Alexander had a son whom they named ALFRED, and that had not been one of our usual
family names.

They had some well-known (extensive trees)
children in Mary Hannah and Moses Burton
Alexander. Moses Burton named one of his
children Alfred.

Sad part is this: I have absolutely nothing for either of
these two Alfred Alexanders. The Alfred of John and Sarah
Alexander has a wife, Margaret Allen, in the file, but I do
not have proof of that and it is farfetched in that Moses
Burton Alexander m. a Margaret Allen, d/o Robert Allen and wife, Jane (Jean) Morrow McMurray, both born in Cabarrus Co., NC, and died in Shelby Co. (Moses) and Raleigh, Fayette
Co., TN (Jane McMurray).

I hope this stirs a recollection in you which will resolve
these problems.

The John Alexander who was supposed to marry my aunt Sarah
Shelby was said to be son of James and Rachel (Mauphet?) Alexander; they had a son John, who died in a couple of yrs
from birth...unless they had another one whom they named
John, too. [BTW, this James was s/o Daniel and Prudence
(Johnston) Alexander; Rachel, wife of James, was preg. withmy aunt of yore, Margaret, when Rachel's James died.
Margaret Alexander later m. my uncle Charles Alexander of
Mecklenburg Co., NC.

If you think of anything, pls get in touch. Mac of Cypress,
