I have ancestors from Coddle Creek as well. They were Bells, and settled in that area in the early 1750s. As I understand it, the name was from a Caudle, but I do not know who. There is a Coddle Creek Presbyterian Church (now A. R. P.) which was founded in 1752. Many of my ancestors were buried there.
As to the name Caudle, there were a lot of Caudles down in Anson and Union Counties. On another branch of my family (Beachum), one of my great grandmother's sisters married a Caudle from Anson Co. You might try looking in those counties for the name.
