I'm looking for a William Rhodes in North Carolina who was born around 1820. An old family chart lists his birth place as Edgecombe County -- another old chart lists his birth place as Lincoln County -- but both charts have him marrying Margaret Parker, daughter of Nicholas Parker and Catherine Whisenant Parker, in Lincoln County on Jan 18, 1845. They were in Burke County for the 1850 census [p. 365; William, miner, 27, Margaret, 27, Saml D. 3, and Catherine, 1] and in Burke County for the 1870 census [p. 399; William, farmer, 50, Margaret, keeping house, 50, Catherine, assisting mother, 21, Eliza, 19, Thomas, works on farm, 17, James, 15, Joseph, 13, and Robert, 11]. I can't find them on the 1860 census. William Rhodes died in 1876 and is buried at Silver Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Margaret Parker Rhodes died in 1905 and is buried there as well. A four-year-old Mae was buried there in 1860. All of the Rhodes children's death certificates list mother's maiden name as Margaret Parker; most of the children stayed in the western North Carolina area. My great great grandfather was William Thomas Rhodes (the Thomas in the 1870 census) and he lived until 1944 -- my dad remembers him well, which I think is really cool -- I wish I could have talked with his Grampa Tommy for just five minutes!
If anyone can help, please let me know. If anyone is descended from this family, PLEASE let me know -- I'm working on all of the descendants and need all the help I can get! Childrens' and grandchildrens' married names include Whisenant, Curtis, McCall, McGimsey, and Stroupe.
Thanks for your time.
Kelly Rhodes Brown
