oarnold@glade.net Researching wifes line of Buckners. Her Gr-Gr-Grandfather, John Buckner, was born in N.C. in 1795. He married, before 1819, Lucinda Rachel Bryan, b. 1802. They married in either N.C. or Tenn. John and Rachel resided in Cocke county Tenn. in 1830. Could not find them in 1820 census and be positive I had right ones. There was no census of Cocke county Tenn. in 1820. They may have been there. The 1830 census of Cocke county Tenn. shows John Buckner, age 30 to 40 and wife, age 20 to 30. They have 3 male children under 15 years of age. Living next door to them in that census is a James Buckner, age 60 to 70 and his wife, age 50 to 60. James and wife have 1 male child in house, age 20 to 30. Have 3 females in house besides wife, ages 10 to 15, 15 to 20 and 20 to 30. I feel certain this James Buckner is the father of John. In checking back to N.C. in 1800 and 1810 I find following. There are 5 Buckners living in the state who have male children under 10 years of age. John, Jesse, Elisha, James and Thomas. I have eliminated John, Jesse and Elisha. I know where their children went, who they married. BUT, the James Buckner in 1800 has a male child under 10. He lives in Burke county N.C. He is 26 to 44 in 1800 and wife is 16 to 26. He is there in 1810. Still lists him as age 26 to 44 and now his wife is listed is 26 to 44. So she is 8 to 10 years younger than him. I found a tax roll list of Burke county from 1796 and it lists James Buckner with 45 acres. So he was there from 1790s til after 1810. Then he's gone. Moved to Cocke county, perhaps. If anyone has info on these folks. let me know. I believe that this James Buckner had a son he named James. The children of John Buckner b. 1795 and wife Rachel born 1802 are: Thomas b. 1819, Jesse James b. 1823, Benjamin b. 1829, Elijah b. 1831, Elisha b. 1831 (twins), Leah b. 1835, John Lawrence b. 1837, Rebecca b. 1839, Levi b. 1841, Lucinda b. 1843 and perhaps (not proven) a Jasper Buckner b. ca 1845. Any info appreciated, Odis and Charlotte Arnold at Richland, Texas.
