You probably have already found out by now, but there were two Matilda's. One was born around 1823 daughter of Alexander Deal (Surname Deal is listed for him most of his life toward the in it is spelled Dial and Dale by census takers)

The other Matilda is a sister to Alexander Deal. They both were children of George and Edy Deal. George Died in 1805 leaving them orphans to be watch by Guardian Elisha Dossey who did not take good care of them in when Alexander was old enough he took the children. There older brother was John Henry Deal. He had a different guardian and tried to appeal for better care of his younger siblings, but never took them himself. Mary must not have survived but Ebby and Matilda and Henry and George and John H. Deal all lived and raised their families in Burke County. None of them really used the name DALE until around 1850 or so. They are listed as Deal. I hope this helps.
