David CARPENTER and Mira GRAGG had a son named Ervin born about 1844. I cannot find him after the 1860 census. David and Mira and many of his siblings moved to Cherokee Cty about that time. Ervin had at least one child: Betty Jane born about 1869 and possibly a son named Todd. I have no idea who he married but Betty Jane lived in Burke Cty and died there. She had a son named Mack Leonard CARPENTER in 1898 that was a natural son of James Dunlop BAIRD b. in AR and son of James Dunlop BAIRD and Mary Louisa DICKENS of Person Cty, NC. She also had a son by an unnamed DANIELS and named his Charles CARPENTER. I think he married an Ina CARPENTER. She married "Crippled George" BARRIER and had a son named Bill in 1901. This was in Burke Cty, also. I have searched high and low for the name of her mother: the wife of Ervin CARPENTER. I have reason to believe she may have been Native American/Cherokee.
