EH:

I am sorry that I did not get back to you sooner. I was unaware that you had replied to my message.

I believe that the Allen Stokes that is found in the early 1800 censuses for Burke County, North Carolina, is a brother to my David Stokes. This conclusion is based on an 1844 letter that is still in existence. A transcription of the letter can be found here: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/STOKES/2010-02/1267211266

Information about my David Stokes can be found here: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=davidstokes&id=I1023

Information about Allen Stokes can be found here:

I have never been able to establish with certainty who is the father of David and Allen Stokes is. However, one family tradition claims that the father's name was John Stokes.

DNA Testing shows that my Stokes line is related to the various Silvanus Stokeses, but I do not know how.

Best Wishes,
Jay T Stokes
